<p>The Winterbotham Estate is a historic former estate property at 163 South Willard Street in Burlington, Vermont. Developed beginning about 1820, it is a prominent local example of a Federal period country estate, with many later additions. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, at which time it housed the city&#39;s school administration. It now houses administrative offices of Champlain College, and is called Skiff Hall.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The former Winterbotham Estate consists of 3.6 acre at the southwest corner of South Willard and Main Streets. The estate contains three buildings on manicured and landscaped grounds: the main house, a combined carriage barn and stable, and a law office. The main house, set nearest the street corner, is a rambling 2-1/2 story painted brick building that exhibits a variety of Federal and later period styles. Significant features include an octagonal cupola in the Italianate style, and a Greek Revival portico on the north facade facing Main Street. The carriage barn and horse stable are matching gable-roofed wood-frame clapboarded buildings facing South Willard south of the house. The law office is a single-story temple-fronted building facing Main Street west of the house.</p><br>
<p>The estate house, carriage barn and stable were all built in 1820 by Jonathon Potwin, a merchant based in Troy, New York. In the 1830s it was acquired by an attorney, who built the law office in 1838, and was responsible for most of the Greek Revival alterations to the main house. In 1927 it was acquired by Joseph Winterbotham, who bequeathed it to the University of Vermont in 1954. The university sold it to the city in 1956, which used it to house school administration offices. It is now owned by Champlain College.</p><br>
<p>Princes House  is an office and residential building in the centre of Brighton, part of the English coastal city of Brighton and Hove. The prominently sited building, an example of Harry Stuart Goodhart-Rendel&#39;s "inimitable response to Modernism", was purpose-built as the headquarters of the Brighton & Sussex Building Society, forerunner of the Alliance & Leicester. The office was later used by Norwich Union, another financial institution, and now houses a restaurant and flats. The steel-framed structure is clad in red bricks with inlaid mosaicwork, forming a carefully detailed façade, and the corner elevation has an arrangement of brickwork and windows which suggests "the pleated folds of a curtain". The building is listed it at Grade II for its architectural and historical importance.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The Brighton & Sussex Equitable Permanent Building Society was founded in 1863 in Brighton by three businessmen: Marriage Wallis, Frederick Tooth and Richard Bevan. Its chairmen included Alderman Sir Herbert Carden (1929–39) and Lewis Cohen, Baron Cohen of Brighton. Under Cardens leadership, its assets increased by nearly 225 times to nearly £5 million. In 1935 the society commissioned architect Harry Stuart Goodhart-Rendel to design a new head office on North Street, Brightons main commercial street since the start of the 19th century and home to many large banks and offices. A site on the corner of Princes Place was chosen; this short street, dominated by the Chapel Royal, was laid out in the 18th century and originally led to Promenade Grove, Brightons first pleasure gardens (now part of the Royal Pavilion grounds). The office opened in 1936, although some clerical staff still occupied premises on New Road nearby. During World War II, important documents and other assets were moved to Saddlescombe on the South Downs, where they were stored underground, and the roof of the building was used to mount a battery of anti-aircraft guns.</p><br>
<p>The Brighton & Sussex changed its name to the Alliance Building Society in 1945. After mergers with more than 20 other building societies, culminating in its amalgamation with the Leicester in 1985, it took the name Alliance & Leicester and was Britains fifth largest building society by 1990, holding assets in excess of £13 billion. Much of its postwar growth came under Baron Cohen of Brightons leadership, and in January 1956 he announced that a new headquarters would be built on land overlooking Hove Park in neighbouring Hove. The steel-framed concrete and granite building opened in 1967.</p><br>
<p>In 2002, property developer Baron Homes Corporation acquired the building and converted the upper storeys into 34 flats. (There are now two penthouse apartments and 30 standard flats. In early 2017, when the entire building had to be evacuated because of a fire, there were 50 residents.) As part of this work, to meet Brighton and Hove City Councils planning and conservation requirements, the original Crittall steel windows were replaced with identical new windows powder-coated with the same pale blue finish as the originals. The ground floor remained in commercial use, and for several years it was occupied by a branch of tapas bar La Tasca. A fire in 2012 caused damage to the restaurant and caused the evacuation of the rest of the building. La Tascas owners then used the premises to test a new format of tapas bar: in January 2013 the restaurant closed and was reopened under the name Bellota Bar y Tapas, still under the same ownership but giving the appearance of being an independent restaurant. It included a separate cava bar. This closed in 2016 and the premises were converted into a branch of the Bella Italia Italian restaurant chain.</p><br>
<p>One of the penthouse apartments, which has an octagonal kitchen and two balconies with extensive views over the city and its hinterland, was bought by local businessman Mike Holland from a former owner of Crawley Town F.C.</p><br>
<h2>Heritage</h2><br>
<p>Under its former name of Norwich Union House, Princes House was listed at Grade II by English Heritage on 4 November 1994. As of February 2001, it was one of 1,124 Grade II-listed buildings and structures, and 1,218 listed buildings of all grades, in the city of Brighton and Hove.</p><br>
<p>The building is within the Valley Gardens Conservation Area, one of 34 conservation areas in the city of Brighton and Hove. This was designated by Brighton Council in 1973 and covers 92.84 acre.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>Harry Stuart Goodhart-Rendel was an architect, architectural writer, former president of the Royal Institute of British Architects and former Brighton resident who adopted a distinctive interpretation of Modern architecture in his designs, particularly at St Wilfrids Church (1932–34) in the Elm Grove area of Brighton and at Princes House itself. "Much more idiosyncratic and edgy" than the "polished" conventional Modernism of Embassy Court, built a year earlier, the buildings simple steel-framed construction contrasts with the "decorative treatment of cladding materials", which include reddish handmade sand-faced bricks, blue glass and tiles inlaid between the bricks, and green slate. The overall design is both "progressive and indebted to 19th-century traditions".</p><br>
<p>The five-storey building has elevations facing south (on to North Street; five bays), west (with 11 bays facing Prince&#39;s Place) and north (six bays facing the Royal Pavilion Gardens). The structure of the steel frame is emphasised by being overlaid with handmade bricks in a soldier course pattern both horizontally and vertically. At each join, the brickwork is laid in a starburst pattern, and pieces of blue tile and glass are inlaid into the joints between the bricks. Green slate is used as a sheathing material at ground-floor level on the rear elevation. Between each section of steel framing, each bay is treated identically in the form of "a cell of identical dimensions and design", consisting of a full-width steel casement window (those at first-floor level slightly taller than those above them) above a panel of red bricks laid in the header bond pattern. The top storey is expressed differently, with single or double pairs of narrow windows alternating with larger, slightly projecting windows in the style of a shallow bay window. The whole of the top storey is also set forwards slightly. Above this, a parapet runs around the whole roof except at the southwest corner, where there is a tower in the form of a short cylinder with zig-zag walls. This zig-zag effect is carried on down the whole of the southwest corner, where the windows have this layout and are slightly recessed.</p><br>
<p>The Twin Pines Lodge and Cabin Camp, also known as the Twin Pines Motel and Frontier Court, is a tourist camp near Dubois, Wyoming on the way to Yellowstone National Park on USA Route 287. The camp was established in 1929 by Dubois businessman Oliver Ernest Stringer who designed the camp and assisted in its construction. Stringer had previously been involved in the construction of the Brooks Lake Lodge, where he built furniture.</p><br>
<p>Stringer came to Dubois in 1901 with his mother, sister and three older brothers. He was born in 1888 in Ohio. Establishing a homestead near Dubois, the family quickly became prominent in the area. Brothers Albert and Oscar built the Stringer Hotel in 1913, with Ernest assisting, and Ernest worked on the local episcopal church and family homes.</p><br>
<p>Stringer bought the camp site in 1929, calling it Frontier Court. In 1934, he built five log cabins and a central camp building. The main lodge was started in 1939 and was completed in 1941, when the name was changed to Twin Pines, named for two blue spruces that Stringer planted at the entrance. By 1950 Stringer had sold the property.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The main lodge is directly on the street. It is a 1-1/2 story log structure with a steeply-sloping hipped center section flanked by gable extensions. The "twin pines" were directly in front. To the rear is a carport with a catslide roof next to a double-gabled extension. The interior features extensive exposed log construction. The cabins are one-story log structures with shallow gabled roofs. Many have graduated saddle-notched log corner details and craftsman style trim and accessories.</p><br>
<p>The Twin Pines was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 10, 1993.</p><br>
<p>Matusevich Fjord , is a fjord in Severnaya Zemlya, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia.</p><br>
<p>This fjord is blocked by heavy ice the whole year round. Its iceberg-producing activity is unmatched by other fjords of Severnaya Zemlya.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Matusevich Fjord was first put in the map at the time of the 1931 expedition led by Soviet researchers Georgy Ushakov and Nikolay Urvantsev that explored for the first time Severnaya Zemlya. More accurate cartographic work of the fjord area was carried out by the 1950 expedition led by B.V. Zubov and A.I. Stepanov using aerial photography.</p><br>
<p>The fjord was named in honor of Nikolai Matusevich, a prominent researcher of the Soviet Arctic.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>Matusevich Fjord is a fjord has its mouth in the northeastern area of October Revolution Island, west of Cape Figurny on the Laptev Sea shore of the island. It is the largest fjord in Severnaya Zemlya. Vollosovich Island and Blizhny Island lie off the mouth of the fjord to the west and to the east respectively.</p><br>
<p>The fjord extends in a roughly northeast/southwest direction for about 60 km. The basin inside the fjord has steep mountains on both sides, the highest reaching a height of 590 m at Gora Bazarnaya. At its inner end there are three branches converging into the fjord, all with active glaciers stemming from the Rusanov Glacier in the northwest and the enormous Karpinsky Glacier in the southeast, producing a great amount of icebergs. The constant outpouring of the glaciers at the head results in massive amounts of ice streaming out of the fjord.</p><br>
<p>There are two small islets in the inner fjord, close to the glacier terminus&#39; zone, Trudny Island with a diameter of 1 km, and 1.3 km long Pregrazhdayushchy Island where a geodetic point stands.</p><br>
<h2>Ecology</h2><br>
<p>Matusevich Fjord is part of the Northern Nature Reserve, one of the seven subdivisions of the Great Arctic State Nature Reserve. There are numerous bird colonies in the cliffs of the fjord, including thick-billed murres (Uria lomvia), gulls (Larus hyperboreus) and snow buntings (Plectrophenax nivalis), among others.</p><br>
<p>Birds Paradise is located in Tianma Village, Xinhui District, Jiangmen, Guangdong Province, China. It is a unique tourist attraction which is known for its beautiful natural environment and rich bird life. The main body of Birds Paradise is a small island with a thick banyan tree forest on it. In 1933, Ba Jinhappened to take a trip here, and was deeply impressed by its wonderful views, so he wrote a famous article, Birds Heaven to in memory of this special experience. In 1984, Ba Jin（巴金）inscribed the words 小鸟天堂, and since then, this place was named after Birds Paradise. In 2016, the local government decided to make Birds&#39; Paradise as a national wetland park.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Its history can date back to the late Ming dynasty and the early Qing dynasty. It is said that a serious drought attacked the village around that time, so the villagers tried their best to dredge a river to water the farmland. However, the rich man in the village and the officers strongly disagreed with this, and they forced the villagers to block the channel, because they thought the river would destroy the geomancy（风水）, which might become a threat to them later. Therefore, the villagers had no choice but to fill the river with soil, and thus a small island was formed. Someone inserted a branch into the small island, and the branch sprouted and grew into a banyan tree in the next year. Many years later that banyan tree had spread and developed into a forest, which gradually covered the island.</p><br>
<h2>Biology and ecology</h2><br>
<h3>Animal</h3><br>
<p>There are almost 40 species of birds inhabiting the forest in Birds&#39; Paradise. Nycticorax nycticorax, Ardeola bacchus, Bubulcus ibis are the most common birds found on the island. In addition, there are also other species of birds like Ardea alba, Motacilla alba, oriental magpie-robin, Copsychus saularis, Turdus merula, Parus major, Pycnonotus sinensis, Pycnonotus jocosus.</p><br>
<h3>Flora</h3><br>
<p>The thick forest on the island consists of many banyan trees. Among the forest, there is one especially large and ancient banyan tree, and it is so large that even ten people can not hold the tree. Besides, in order to make the environment more suitable for the birds to live, the staffs plant some other plants like Anubias, Salix babylonica, Hedychium coronarium, Nelumbo, Nelumbo nucifera and Argyranthemum frutescens, so that the ecosystem there can be more intact.</p><br>

<h3>Water Channel(榕荫水道）</h3><br>
<p>The water channel around the island contains many banyan trees on both sides. These provide shade for visitors who can take boat trips to enjoy the scenery, as well as listen to local folk tunes, sung by professional singers.</p><br>

<p>Covering an area of over 1500 square meters, the bird museum aims to share information about the site&#39;s avian fauna. Different kinds of bird specimens and pictures are displayed, whilst live bird shows are provided by trained staff.</p><br>

<h3>Ba Jin（巴金） -Birds' Heaven</h3><br>
<p>Birds Paradise was made famous by the passage Birds Heaven, written by Ba Jin, a renowned Chinese writer. He visited the site in 1993 with friends, and was so impressed by the beautiful scene that he wrote about his trip. Many years later, this passage, Birds&#39; Heaven, was listed into the textbook for primary school students. As a result of this article, many more people now know about this place.</p><br>
<h3>Wu Guanzhong（吴冠中）-Paradise for Paradise for Small Birds</h3><br>
<p>This picture is an ink painting painted by Wu Guanzhong in 1989. After hearing about Birds&#39; Paradise, Wu Guanzhong looked forward to visiting because he thought the site might accord with his own ideal image of paradise. When he finally arrived, he was so impressed by its scenery that he decided to draw it. In 1992, Wu Guanzhong donated this picture to the British Museum in London.</p><br>
<p>Bozyazı Island is a small Mediterranean island in Turkey.</p><br>
<p>The island faces Bozyazı ilçe (district) of Mersin Province at 36&deg;05&prime;45&Prime;N latitude, 32&deg;58&prime;33&Prime;E longitude. Its distance to shore is only 200 m and in 1982 a road was constructed between the main land and the island by embankment. But in 2009 the artificial connection was abandoned.</p><br>
<p>Although it is currently uninhabited there are ruins on the island.The island was once a part of the Nagidos ancient city. However, during the Cilician pirates age the city lost its former importance and the population mostly concentrated in the island then called "Nagidudos" or "Tagiduda".</p><br>
<p>The total area of the island is about 11,500 m&sup2;. According to the Ministry od Forestry the island is declared an archaeological site.</p><br>
<p>The Lange Meile  is a plateau  in the Franconian Jura in south Germany which is a up to about. It lies within the region of Franconian Switzerland in the Upper Franconian county of Forchheim in the state of Bavaria.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>The Lange Meile is located on the western fringes of the Franconian Jura in the Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park. Its plateau lies between the four towns of Heiligenstadt (Bamberg county) to the north-northeast, Ebermannstadt to the east, Forchheim to the south-southeast and Eggolsheim to the west. Nearby villages include Eschlipp to the north-northeast, Niedermirsberg, Breitenbach, Neuses-Poxstall, Reifenberg and Weilersbach to the east, Ehrlersheim and Rettern to the south, Kauernhofen, Weigelshofen, Drosendorf, Götzendorf to the west and Drügendorf to the north-northwest.</p><br>
<p>On the northern edge of the Lange Meile, on its boundary with the main plateau of the Franconia Jura between Eschlipp and Drügendorf are limestone quarries. Here the Staatsstraße 2260 from Ebermannstadt runs past Eschlipp between the quarries to Drügendorf. To the east the plateau descends into the valley of the Wiesent, a tributary of the Regnitz and, to the west, into that of the Eggerbach, a short tributary of the Main-Danube Canal.</p><br>

<h2>Geology</h2><br>
<p>The rocks of the Lange Meile were formed by the Jurassic Sea and consist of clay, sandstone and limestone. Sediments of the Malm characterise the plateau. Its source waters are used to supply drinking water to several nearby villages. It has a high lime content.</p><br>
<h2>Reserves</h2><br>
<p>On the eastern flanks of the Lange Meile is one of the western areas of the Special Area of Conservation called Wiesent Valley and Side Valleys (Wiesent-Tal mit Seitentälern, FFH No. 6233-371), the western flank of this table-like hill is part of the southern area of the SAC known as the Albtrauf from the Frisener Warte to the Lange Meile (Albtrauf von der Friesener Warte zur Langen Meile, FFH No. 6132-371). Large parts of the Lange Meile lie in the western part of the Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest protected area, established in 2001 founded and covering an area of 1,021.64 square kilometres (LSG No. 322697).</p><br>
<h2>Landscape and sights</h2><br>
<p>The steep sides of the Lange Meile are forested, the plateau itself is bare in many areas and is used for agriculture.</p><br>
<p>On the Lange Meile are Feuerstein Castle Airfield south of the Mirsberg Heights (Mirsberger Höhe) and, south of that, the Feuerstein Observatory. On the Wachknock, to the east, is the youth hostel of Feuerstein Castle.</p><br>
<p>Hafursey  is an inselberg in southern Iceland. It has a length of 4.8 km and a width of 3 km.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>Hafursey lies to the north of the black outwash plain of Mýrdalssandur, south of a side glacier of the Mýrdalsjökull, called Kötlujökull.</p><br>
<h2>Shape</h2><br>
<p>The mountain, which is approximately triangular in shape, has some peaks and is also divided into two parts by a gorge called Klofgil. This extends as much of a mountain as a whole from southeast to north-west. The western part of Hafursey is the highest and is called Skálafjall (582 m), to the north is a secondary peak called Kistufell (525 m).</p><br>
<h2>Geology</h2><br>
<p>The mountain was created during the Ice Age and consists of palagonite.</p><br>
<p>However, it probably does not belong to Katla, but feeds from its own source of magma. One can imagine its origin in one or more eruptions similar to that of Surtsey, but it far surpasses this real island in size. In addition, it was not born in the sea, but under an Ice Age glacier.</p><br>
<p>After the end of the Ice Age, the mountain was temporarily an island, which is still recognisable, hence the name. However, in the case of an island of a special kind, the numerous jökulhlaups of the Katla repeatedly remade it, and contributed to its erosion. Kötlujökull plays a leading role in this, because it has the largest amount of glacier ice and water, which can then be released with a volume of up to 100,000 or even 200,000 m2 / sec. running over the outwash plain.</p><br>
<h2>Agricultural benefits</h2><br>
<p>The land is fertile and good pastureland. For this reason, the farmers of the now abandoned farm used the mountain as a summer pasture for their sheep.</p><br>
<h2>Accommodation for travellers</h2><br>
<p>In earlier times the main route to southeast Iceland was across Mýrdalssandur at the foot of the mountain, a shelter was built there at the beginning of the 20th century. Previously, travelers had used the Stúka cave on the mountain for the same purpose.</p><br>
<h2>Hiking</h2><br>
<p>Hikers can go to Skálafjall, for example, first following the road track from the hut about 2.5 km to the west and then ascending via an incision, which in a certain way represents the extension of the Klofgil to the southeast.</p><br>

<p>The area was used for location filming for the 2016 Star Wars spinoff film Rogue One.</p><br>
<p>The Greenbanks Hollow Covered Bridge is a historic covered bridge, carrying Greenbanks Hollow Road across Joes Brook in southern Danville, Vermont. It is the only surviving 19th-century covered bridge in the town. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Greenbanks Hollow Covered Bridge is located in a rural area of southern Danville, spanning Joes Brook, an east-flowing tributary of the Connecticut River. Greenbanks Hollow Road is a minor through road between Danville and Peacham. It is a single-span queen post truss structure, with flanking trusses of unequal length. The western truss is 73 ft long, while the eastern one is 1.5 ft longer, the skew visible at the southern portal. The bridge is 16.5 ft wide, with a roadway width of 15 ft, carrying one lane of traffic. It is covered by a metal gabled roof with broad eaves. The side walls are covered to about half their height with vertical board siding, which is extended around the full height of the portals. The bridge rests on abutments of stone and concrete; the northern one has been rebuilt after its original stone abutment collapsed.</p><br>
<p>The bridge&#39;s construction date and builder are not known. Vermont historian Herbert Congdon claims that the bridge was originally uncovered, and that its roof is a later addition. It is stylistically similar to the bridges located in nearby Lyndon, which also feature queen post trusses, half-height siding, and broad roofs. It is the only surviving 19th-century covered bridge in the town of Danville.</p><br>
<p>Hjörleifshöfði is a 221 m-high inselberg in southern Iceland. It consists of palagonite. The mountain is located on the Mýrdalssandur outwash plain about 15 km east of Vík í Mýrdal, and was an island in the Atlantic Ocean.</p><br>
<h2>Name</h2><br>
<p>The name was given to the mountain by one of the first legendary settlers mentioned in the Landnámabók.</p><br>
<p>According to this, Hjörleifr Hróðmarsson was the brother-in-law of Ingólfur Arnarson, Iceland&#39;s first official settler. He settled at Hjörleifshöfði towards the end of the ninth century. There, however, he was slain by his slaves. The slaves fled to Vestmannaeyjar, where Ingólfur took his revenge for his friend and slew them.</p><br>
<p>On the top of the mountain is a mound called Hjörleifshaugur, where Hjörleifr is said to be buried.</p><br>
<h2>Geology</h2><br>
<p>The mountain is of volcanic origin but was covered by ice or seawater at the time of its formation, so it has a similar past as the nearby larger Hafursey mountain. Then it was an island surrounded by sea. At the time of the settlement of Iceland, it was already connected to the mainland, but there was still a fjord at its side, which was used to shore ships.</p><br>
<p>Later, the jökulhlaups, connected with the eruptions of the Katla volcano in Mýrdalsjökull, gathered so much sand and gravel that it was now not at the shore but surrounded by the mainland and the fjord was filled.</p><br>
<p>After the eruption of Katla in 1918, a tongue of land, Kötlutangi, led out into the sea so far that it was regarded as the southernmost point of Iceland. Meanwhile, however, the sea eroded it to the point that this title again belongs to the peninsula of Dyrhólaey.</p><br>
<h2>Farm</h2><br>
<p>By 1936 there was a farm of the same name on the mountain. After the outbreaks of Katla in 1660 or 1721 it had been moved up.</p><br>
<p>The farm was regarded as relatively well-off because of the side-income from the hunt for seabirds and the collection of eggs.</p><br>

<p>The Nye Block, also known as the Johnson Landmark Building, was a historic commercial building at Main and Railroad Streets in Johnson, Vermont. Built in 1868, it was an elaborate example of Second Empire architecture, occupying a prominent position in the town center. It was destroyed by an arsonist in 1986. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Nye Block stood prominently in the center of the village of Johnson, at the southwest corner of Main and Railroad Streets. It was a long 2-1/2 story wood-frame structure, capped with a mansard roof that provided a full third floor in the attic. The building physically dominated the area, as it was the tallest and most ornately decorated structure in the downtown. Its main facade faced Main Street, and it extended over 120 ft along Railroad Street, its rear section decreasing in width due to the curvature of the road. The mansard roof had a bracketed cornice at both the steep and shallow-angled portions, and windows recessed into it. An ornate porch extended across the front and partially along the left side, and there was a recessed porch bay midway along the long left side.</p><br>
<p>The block was built in 1868-69 by Leonard Knight, a local businessman, as a speculative venture in anticipation of the railroad being routed nearby. It was at the time of its construction the most ornate building in the town, and was rare in the state as a particularly good example of vernacular Second Empire architecture. It was destroyed by a suspicious fire in 1986; the building had stood vacant for some time, and rehabilitation possibilities had been under discussion in the town.</p><br>
<p>The Lewis System Armored Car and Detective Service Building, also known as the Bell Tire and Rubber Company  and Sioux City Tent and Awning, is a historic building located in Sioux City, Iowa, United States. F.A. Martin and Richard Nash, who owned the property, had this two-story brick commercial building constructed in 1929. KB Construction , who built the building, occupied the second floor. Bell Tire and Rubber Company was the first business located on the first floor from 1930 to 1933. A few other businesses occupied the space until Sioux City Tent and Awning was located here from 1937 to 1941. The following year Lewis System moved in and remained until 1969. The second floor was converted into apartments about 1950.</p><br>
<p>The Lewis System, Inc. was established in 1919 and incorporated in 1922 by Harry Lewis, who grew up in St. Louis and was in the United States Army before he became a railroad detective and moved to Sioux City. By 1930 the company grew to 111 employees and had offices in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Omaha, Nebraska, Chicago, and Kansas City, Missouri. A large portion of their business was in retail crime, but they also provided security guards for business firms, security checks, and security alarms.</p><br>
<p>The Motor Mart Building, also known as the Commerce Building, is a historic building located in Sioux City, Iowa, United States. It was built by Ralph A. Bennett, who was the owner of Bennett Auto Supply Company. The structure was designed in the style of the Chicago school by E.J. Henriques of the C.F. Lytle Company of Sioux City, who also built the structure. It was initially designed to be two stories tall, but the plans were changed and two more floors were added. It was designed to display, repair and provide parking for automobiles. It was also the first building in Sioux City to incorporate the flat slab system of framing of Claude A.P. Turner, and it was one of the first reinforced, poured concrete buildings in the city. The exterior of the concrete frame structure is clad with glazed brick over common brick infill. The building features terra cotta decorative elements.</p><br>
<p>A.L. Galinsky bought the building in 1919 and converted it into an office building. Its name was changed to the Commerce Building at that time. The Roof Garden was added above the fourth floor from 1921 to 1923. It is a gabled structure covered with stucco. Large Palladian windows line the side walls. The structure housed a ballroom that hosted a variety of social events, and where many big bands played. Lawrence Welk played an early concert here. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.</p><br>

<p>Krenkel Bay is a body of water in the northeastern area of Komsomolets Island, the northernmost island of Severnaya Zemlya.</p><br>
<p>The bay is open to the southeast. It is regular in shape and has a width of about 25 km. The edge of the massive Academy of Sciences Glacier runs all along the western shore, while the northern shoreline is bound by a stretch of unglaciated area. Ozerny Island lies close to the northeastern headland of the bay.</p><br>

<p>A 724 m long ice core was drilled between 1999 and 2001 from a drilling site located near the summit of the Academy of Sciences Glacier.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>The Academy of Sciences Glacier is roughly circular in shape with a diameter of about 80 km and an area of 5,570 km&sup2;. It covers almost two thirds of Komsomolets island, except for an unglaciated area at the northern end. Its average height is 692 m with a maximum elevation of 749 m.</p><br>
<p>This vast ice cap is located on the southern side of the island, stretching from coast to coast, with the Laptev Sea on its eastern side at Krenkel Bay, the Red Army Strait in the south and the Kara Sea on the west at Zhuravlev Bay.</p><br>
<p>Grouselands, also known more recently as the Waterman Farm, is a historic farm and country estate on McDowell Road in Danville, Vermont. The main house is a distinctive and rare example of Shingle style architecture in northern Vermont, and is the product of a major redesign of an Italianate farmhouse built in the 1860s. The house and immediate surrounding outbuildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>Grouselands stands in a rural area of northern Danville, on the west side of McDowell Road south of its junction with Wheelock Road. It is, at first glance, a typical 19th-century New England connected farmstead, with a main house, side wing, and barn stretched in a line from north to south. The main house is a gambrel-roofed structure, clad in wooden shingles, with a pair of interior brick chimneys, a hip-roof dormer projecting from the upper roof, and shed-roof dormers on the steep part of the gambrel, their roofs continuing the pitch of the upper roof. It is three bays wide, with a single-story porch that runs along the left two bays and around the corner toward the recessed ell. This porch is supported by Doric columns and adds a note of the Colonial Revival to the facade. An older porch extends along part of the recessed ell; it has paneled square columns and brackets in the Italianate style, reflective of the house&#39;s early appearance.</p><br>
<p>The property was known to have been settled as a farm as early as 1799, and went through a number of owners in the 19th century, especially during the period of the 1860s, when this house was probably built. It was at that time a somewhat typically Italianate structure (as shown in early 20th-century photos), and was operated as an inn for a period of time in the late 19th century. It was purchased in 1903 by Stephen Waterman, an architect from Rhode Island, who oversaw its complete transformation into the Shingle style structure present today. Waterman&#39;s estate also included tennis courts and a nine-hole golf course.</p><br>
<p>Konduwattuwana Wewa  or Kondawattuwana Wewa is an ancient reservoir located in Ampara, Sri Lanka. The reservoir lies on the Ampara – Inginiyagala main road, approximately 4 km away from the town of Ampara. The site with ancient Buddhist ruins which belonging to the Konduwattuwana reservoir area is a formally recognised an archaeological site in Sri Lanka.</p><br>
<p>The reservoir is believed to be built during 1st-3rd century BC and had been renovated time to time to facilitate irrigation and drinking water to the nearby area. According to a stone pillar inscription found near the reservoir, the irrigation water of this reservoir was taxed, along with the paddy fields during the reign of King Dappula IV (939 - 940). Further it reveals that unlawful tapping of irrigation water had also been prohibited by the edict.</p><br>
<p>Okladnikov Cave  is a paleoanthropological site located in the foothills of the Altai Mountains in Soloneshensky District, Altai Krai in southern Siberia, Russia. The cave faces south and is located on a Devonian karst escarpment, lying about 14 m above the left bank of the Sibiryachikha River valley below; the river itself is a tributary of the Anuy River.</p><br>
<p>Okladnikov Cave is one of the most extensively studied Paleolithic sites in the Altai-Sayan region. A rich Mousterian stone industry, dating to between 33,000 and 44,000 years ago, was discovered, as well as several highly fragmented hominin fossils. Along with a few other Neanderthal sites in the Altai-Sayan region, Okladnikov Cave contains fossil evidence for one of the most easterly confirmed sites with Neanderthal presence.</p><br>
<h2>Background</h2><br>
<p>The cave was originally named after a nearby village, Sibiryachikha, located 1 km away. The cave was renamed by Anatoly P. Derevianko in honor of Alexey Okladnikov. Okladnikov Cave was first excavated in 1984. The cave is one of several Paleolithic sites located in the Anuy Basin, along with Denisova Cave, Ust-Karakol, Kamminaya Cave, Isrkra Cave, Karama and Anuy I-III.</p><br>
<p>Palynological evidence suggest that, like today, the surrounding area during the time associated with Paleolithic hominin finds was composed primarily of dry forest steppe, albeit in a slightly colder and more humid context.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>Situated around 50 km north of Denisova Cave, Okladnikov Cave is actually a complex of interconnected cavities: the cave consists of an overhang, an entrance stone bench that is 8 m wide, 2 m high and 4.2 m deep; and five corridors (galleries). The narrow cave extends into the hill for about 35 m. Its entrance faces south at 14 m above the river. Just one hundred meters away is an animal cave, dubbed Sibiryachikha VI, in which an as yet unclassified child’s humerus was found in 1985. Researchers suggested that this cave would have served better for human use than the actual Okladnikov Cave, although they found no traces of human occupation.</p><br>
<h2>Archaeology</h2><br>
<h3>Stratigraphy</h3><br>
<p>Archaeologists have identified seven archaeological layers at Okladnikov Cave.</p><br>
<h3>Artefacts</h3><br>
<p>Nearly 4000 lithic tools have been recovered from Okladnikov Cave. Mousterian artefacts are found throughout all seven layers. The tool assemblage consisted mostly of scrapers and scraper-knives. Around a quarter of the tools at Okladnikov Cave were made from jasperoids, while around 5% were made from hornstones.</p><br>
<p>The lithic industry at Okladnikov Cave shares most similarities with another site in the Altai-Sayan region, Chagyrskaya Cave, and are rather distinct from other Altai sites. However, unlike at Chagyrskaya Cave, Levallois-type tools are uniquely found at Okladnikov Cave. Both sites contain a great number of Neanderthal/Mousterian stone tools. The lithic culture was initially referred to as the Altai Mousterian; nowadays, the culture is more commonly referred to as the Sibiryachikha culture or the Sibiryachikha variant.</p><br>
<h3>Fauna</h3><br>
<p>Over 6000 animal fossil elements were discovered at the cave, representing at least 20 different species. The remains of marmot, gray wolf, red fox, bear, horse, cave hyena, wooly rhinoceros, reindeer, steppe bison, red deer, Siberian ibex and argali sheep were commonly found inside the cave, with a heavy presence of cave hyena and wooly rhinoceros remains. Some beaver, Panthera spelaea and red wolf remains were also discovered.</p><br>
<p>The heavy presence of cave hyena remains indicate that the cave was most likely intermittently shared between cave hyenas and hominins.</p><br>
<h3>Diet</h3><br>
<p>Comparative studies on diet show that Neanderthals from the Altai-Sayan region lived in a manner similar to that of late European Neanderthals. Both show signs of being specialized hunters who were likely dependent on the subsistence hunting of large herbivores.</p><br>
<h3>Hominin fossils</h3><br>
<p>168 hominin fossil elements were discovered at the cave, with the majority coming from adults. The hominin remains include five teeth and nine cranial fragments, most likely representing at least four distinct individuals. Archaeologists had long suspected that the fossil hominin remains belonged to Neanderthals; however, some had argued that the remains belonged to humans with mixed Homo erectus traits. Rather fragmented and consequently hard to classify, morphological comparisons with Neanderthals did not produce definitively convincing results. This question was resolved through the successful application of DNA testing to some of the hominin fossil remains.</p><br>

<h3>Archaeogenetics</h3><br>
<p>In 2007, researchers from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology succeeded in extracting DNA from two fossil hominin fragments from Okladnikov Cave: the humeral diaphysis of a juvenile and a separate femur fragment. mtDNA sequencing confirmed that both fragments most likely belonged the same individual, dubbed Okladnikov 2. The mtDNA sequences of the HVR I (hypervariable region I) from Okladnikov 2 confirmed that the individual was Neanderthal. On the basis of mtDNA analysis, Okladnikov 2 was found to be more related to European and western Asian Neanderthals. A 2014 re-analysis teasing out ancient DNA from contaminated sequences allowed researchers to complete the mtDNA sequence from Okladnikov 2. The completed sequence shows that the Okladnikov 2 mtDNA is basal to that sequenced from Mezmaiskaya 1 from Mezmaiskaya Cave and is even closer to western Neanderthals than previously thought.</p><br>
<h2>Implications</h2><br>
<p>DNA extracted from skeletal remains has shown that Altai Neanderthals (closely related to Neanderthals found in western Europe) roamed some 2000 kilometres further east than previously thought. This close relative of modern humans obviously migrated very long distances.</p><br>
<p>The local habitat was rich in mammalian resources, allowing the Altai Neanderthals to permanently settle in the foothills of the Altai Mountains by at least 300,000 years ago. The Altai Neanderthals appeared to have chosen occupational sites primarily based on their strategic locations close to rivers and within valleys, locations ideal for hunting prey. During the early to middle Late Pleistocene, the broader region in general was most likely composed of forest and forest tundra, based on a mix of conifer and some broad-leaved trees. Under these conditions, the Altai-Sayan region provided the early hominin inhabitants with a very appealing environment.</p><br>
<p>The Peoples Academy is a historic high school in Morrisville, Vermont.</p><br>
<p>In 1996, the main school building, along with the observatory and bandshell located on the school grounds, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. All of the structures are bequests of George C. Grout and native son Alexander Hamilton Copley. The latter donated both the land and building that form the Peoples Academy, which serves as the local public high school and is a major local work of Classical Revival architecture.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Peoples Academy complex is located at the eastern end of Main Street, on a hill that provides a commanding view of the village of Morrisville to the west. The main block of the school is a two-story red brick building, with a flat roof and limestone trim. The broad facade is divided into five sections, and is roughly symmetrical. The outer sections project slightly, and have three window bays and quoined corners; the ground floor level has no windows, and a single round-arch stone panel at the center. The next sections in from the sides each have five window bays. The center section houses the main entrance at its center, with flanking single windows on the ground floor, and doubled window bays in the upper level. The section is flanked by paired square pilasters, and the entrance bay is framed by Corinthian columns. The section is topped by a balustrade with an embedded clock.</p><br>
<p>The main block has had a number of more modern additions made over the 20th century. The building complex also includes a circular brick astronomical observatory building, donated by George C. Grout in 1930, and the Community Bandshell, a wood-frame structure that has traditionally been used for school graduation ceremonies since its construction in 1930.</p><br>
<p>The property and initial building for the Peoples Academy were made by a donation by Alexander Hamilton Copley, a Lamoille County native who had made a fortune as a pharmaceutical businessman in Boston, Massachusetts. He originally purchased the land to build a house for himself and his wife, but she got sick and died before this vision was realized. He instead gave the property to the town, and funded construction of the building, which is nearly identical to a period high school building in Provincetown, Massachusetts.</p><br>
<p>The Derby House Hotel is a historic former hotel building at Main and West Streets in Derby, Vermont. Built in 1896, it was for many years an important element of the social and commercial life of the small community. Now converted into apartments, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.</p><br>

<p>The former Derby House Hotel stands in the village of Derby Center, at the northwest corner of Main Street (Vermont Route 105) and West Street. It is a 2-1/2 story wood frame structure, with a dormered mansard roof providing space for a full third floor. The main facade is three bays wide, with windows set in surrounds with slightly gabled lintels. The most prominent feature of the building is its two-story porch, which is a near replica of the original, as seen in an early 20th-century photograph. The ground floor porch is open, with square posts that lack bracketing found in the original. A short skirt of angled slats runs around the base. The second-floor porch balustrade has elements in a figure-eight pattern, and there is a spindled valance above. The porch wraps around to the side facing West Street. An ell extends to the rear (west) of the main block.</p><br>
<p>The hotel was built in 1896 by L.A. Rickard, to meet a demand that was primarily for visitors conducting business in the local industries. This is different than many other 19th-century Vermont hotels, which were built for the tourist trade. This hotel had some of the same trappings as tourist hotels, most notably the porch, which was a common feature on Vermont hotels of the time, and is the only one to survive in the northeastern part of the state. Its business was always somewhat precarious, and it ceased to serve as a hotel after foreclosure in 1932. It was converted into apartments in 1946.</p><br>

<p>The bay is open to the Kara Sea in the southwest. It has a maximum width at its mouth of about 10 km, steadily narrowing towards the inner bay. The edge of the massive Academy of Sciences Glacier runs all along the eastern shore, while the northwestern shoreline is bound by a stretch of unglaciated area with Shar Island, 1 km in diameter, at the end of the headland.</p><br>

<p>The cave complex contains over 4,000 fossils and over 500 graphical units, with 109 signs, 92 animal figures and 40 hand stencils. The cave complex is noted for containing one of the best preserved floors from the Paleolithic. La Garma is listed as part of the Cave of Altamira and Paleolithic Cave Art of Northern Spain World Heritage Site.</p><br>
<p>There are 10 archaeological sites situated around La Garma Hill (elevation 185 m above sea level): the Lower Gallery (Galería Inferior), La Garma A, La Garma B, La Garma C, La Garma D, Cueva del Mar, El Truchiro, Peredo, Valladar, and a hillfort. Cueva del Mar, Peredo and Valladar are not part of the La Garma cave system. The La Garma cave system shows evidence of human use from 175,000 years ago through the Middle Ages.</p><br>
<h3>La Garma A</h3><br>
<p>the entrance to the cave system leads through La Garma A, as the only entrance into the cave system. It lies at 80 m above sea level and has an extensive stratigraphy, containing Aurignacian, Gravettian, Solutrean and Magdalenian layers, as well as Mesolithic, Neolithic, Chalcolithic, Bronze Age and Middle Ages layers.</p><br>
<h3>La Garma B</h3><br>
<p>La Garma B lies at 70 m above sea level and is situated between La Garma A and the Lower Gallery. La Garma B contains Chacolithic and Bronze Age layers. La Garma B leads into the Intermediate Gallery, which contains Paleolithic cave paintings and deposits.</p><br>
<h3>Lower Gallery</h3><br>
<p>The Lower Gallery of La Garma is situated at 59 m above sea level and is around 300 m in length. It was discovered in November 1995. Its original entrance was sealed during the Pleistocene by a rockslide about 16,000 years ago, preserving the cave floor in a pristine manner. The Magdalenian Lower Gallery cave floor is one of the best preserved Paleolithic cave floors ever discovered, and thus of great interest to paleoanthropologists. Researchers have divided the Lower Gallery into 9 zones. The archaeological finds are found primarily in Zones I, III and IV.</p><br>
<p>The floor covers an area of over 500 m&sup2;. Thousands of animal bones and sea shells were found in this section, including Lithic, antler and bone artefacts. Three stone structures, likely indicative of residential use, were discovered.</p><br>
<p>In a pre-Magdalenian context 27 hand stencils in red, red dots, and simple animal paintings in red were found throughout the Lower Gallery. The Middle Magdalenian paintings and remains of residential structures were found near the entrance to this section of the cave. A vertical bison representation from Zone IX was directly dated to around 16,512-17,238 BP.</p><br>
<h3>La Garma C and D</h3><br>
<p>La Garma C and D are situated above La Garma A and contain burials from the Chacolithic.</p><br>
<h3>El Truchiro Cave</h3><br>
<p>El Truchiro Cave lies at 39 m above sea level and contains Mesolithic and Chacolithic layers. A late Mesolithic burial dating to around 5560–5310 BC was discovered, with an individual buried in an oak bark coffin.</p><br>
<h2>Special findings</h2><br>
<h3>Cave lion remains</h3><br>
<p>Nine distal phalanxes (claws) from an adult Eurasian cave lion were discovered in the Lower Gallery. One of the claws was directedly dated and yields a date of around 14,800 BC. The cave lion fossils came from a smaller specimen of Eurasian cave lions that was common in Cantabria. The claws show signs similar to those made by modern hunters when skinning an animal to preserve its pelt. Since no other cave lion fossil elements were discovered, researchers believe that the fossil claws are the remains of a pelt from a cave lion skinned by the inhabitants of the cave.</p><br>
<h3>Portable art</h3><br>
<p>La Garma is notable for its rich repository of Magdalenian portable art found in The Lower Gallery. The most outstanding artefact is a backwards-facing ibex depiction carved onto a bovine rib spatula. Other portable art elements found at the cave complex include perforated batons, decorated stone plaquettes and undecorated pendants.</p><br>
<h3>Mortuary practices</h3><br>
<p>During the Neolithic, La Garma was less and less used as a residential site. From the Chalcolithic through the Bronze Age, it was used primarily as a collective burial site. The peculiar remains of five Visigothic youths were found deep in the cave system. Their skulls had all been deliberately crushed after the bodies had turned into skeletons.</p><br>
<p>The Hardwick Street Historic District encompasses the earliest settlement area of Hardwick, Vermont. Extending along Hardwick Street and Bayley-Hazen Road in a rural area of eastern Hardwick, it includes eight farm properties dating to the early 19th century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The town of Hardwick was first settled in 1793, by Asa Warner. He came along the Bayley-Hazen Military Road, built by Continental Army forces during the American Revolutionary War as a potential route for an attack on the British Province of Quebec. The road was never used militarily, but opened remote northern Vermont for settlement. Warner settled in what is now eastern Hardwick, on a stretch of Hardwick Street that is part of the old military road, and operated an inn and stagecoach tavern. Others followed, and by 1810 the area also had a post office and general store, a building that now survives as a private residence. The area was eclipsed in economic and civic importance after the American Civil War.</p><br>
<p>The historic district covers a stretch of Hardwick Street, roughly between Country Club Road in the north and the Bayley-Hazen Road to the south, and extends along the latter road to the Hazen Road Cemetery, where many of the region&#39;s early settlers are buried. The historic buildings in the district are generally wood-frame structures 1-1/2 or 2-1/2 stories in height, and were built between about 1810 and 1855. Also included in the district is a stone marker placed by a local Grange organization in 1906, marking the history of the military road.</p><br>
<p>Locust Street Historic District is a national historic district located at Washington, Franklin County, Missouri. The district encompasses 123 contributing buildings in a predominantly residential section of Washington. The district developed between about 1839 and 1949, and includes representative examples of Italianate, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, and Bungalow / American Craftsman style residential architecture. Located in the district is the separately listed Franz Schwarzer House. <p>The Samarga River is the northernmost river in the Primorsky Krai territory in the far eastern part of Russia. It is the largest coastal river in the northern Sikhote-Alin mountain range at 220 km in length. It flows into the Sea of Japan. The river system is a unique and relatively untouched centre of biodiversity in the Eastern Sikhote–Alin mountains because it is in a remote and mountainous region.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>The river is located in the northeast Primorsky territory of Russia. The northern and western boundaries of the river&#39;s watershed form the border between Primorsky territory and Khabarovsk territory. It confluences into the Sea of Japan at Samarga, a small town on the coast of the sea. In the estuary on the sea side, there is a kind of blind creek named the "Samrga duct" which extends for about 5 km.</p><br>
<h2>Tributaries and watershed</h2><br>
<p>Numerous small tributaries form a dense and extensive network in the watershed of the river.</p><br>
<p>The major left-hand tributaries of the Samarga River, facing downstream, are: the Perepadnaya River (30 km long), the Dagdy River (70 km), the Moi River (45 km), the Isimi River (45 km), and the Agzu River (30 km). The Sobu, Zova, Dzolu, Kalashnikov, Takhalo, and Kipreinyi Rivers, among others, are minor tributaries.</p><br>
<p>The major right-hand tributaries are: the Pukhi River (60 km long), the Kuksi River (30 km), and the Bolshaya Sokhatka River (36 km). The Bugu, Zaami, and Unity Rivers are minor tributaries.</p><br>
<p>The Samarga River’s average discharge is between 74 and per second. Its catchment area is around 7,760 km&sup2;. The length of the watershed boundary is 515 km. Floods are common in the summer and autumn.</p><br>
<h2>Fish</h2><br>
<p>The Samarga River watershed is so far the only place in the Primorsky territory with very high fish biodiversity and high natural fish productivity. The diversity of habitats provides for a wide variety of fish species.</p><br>
<p>A wide variety of fish, nearly 20 species &ndash;such as pink salmon, masu salmon, chum salmon, cherry salmon, Dolly Varden, white-spotted char, and grayling salmon &ndash; are abundant in the river and its tributaries. The river basin is also home to the largest population of a rare salmonid species – Sakhalin taimen. The Anadromous salmon (pink, masu, chum, and the less abundant coho) comprise a substantial part of the river biomass. The pink salmon stock is the largest, comprising 10% of the total population of pink salmon of the Russian mainland Sea of Japan coast. Masu salmon stocks rank second after pinks, and char are fairly abundant.</p><br>
<p>The production topography of the Samarga River is also very interesting. The lowest part of the river &ndash; from Unty Creek to the river mouth &ndash; is a zone of pink salmon, chum, rainbow smelt, and grayling salmon. The middle part of the river &ndash; from Zova Creek to Unty Creek &ndash; is an area of pink salmon, adult masu, taimen, lenok, and grayling salmon. The upper reaches of the river &ndash; upstream from Zova Creek &ndash; are home to juvenile masu, taimen, and grayling salmon.</p><br>
<h2>Ecosystem</h2><br>
<p>The Samarga River basin is a unique ecosystem comprising many rare species of fora and fauna, including Japanese yew, ginseng, Amur tiger, Himalayan bear, Amur mountain goral, Gould’s merganser, and Blakiston&#39;s fish owl.</p><br>
<p>Rare plant species listed as endangered found in the Samarga watershed include: Japanese yew (Taxus cuspidata Siebold et Zucc. ex Endl.), woodland peony (Peonia obovata Maxim), ladyslippers (Cypripedium macranthon Sw., C. calceolus L., C. guttatum Sw.), two-rowed and candlestick lilies (Lilium distichum Nakai, L. pensylvanicum Ker-Gawl), Palibin’s edelweiss (Leontopodium palibinianum Beauv), and false juniper (Microbiota decussata Kom), among others.</p><br>
<h2>Resources and economy</h2><br>
<p>The Samarga River basin is very rich in timber, metals, and hunting and fishing resources, but because it is in an extremely remote and mountainous region, with harsh climatic conditions, the accessibility and extraction of the natural resources in this river system is very poor.</p><br>
<p>There are currently four small towns in the area: Edinka, Peretychikha, Samarga and Agzu in the watersheds of the Edinka and Samarga Rivers. According to the 2001 Census, the total population in the riverine watersheds is about 800 people, representing various ethnic groups. Out of this number, 140 belong to the Udege people, an indigenous ethnic group. The present-day Udege population of the basin lives primarily in one village &ndash; Agzu &ndash; while the residents of the remaining three towns are largely of Slavic origin. Almost the entire people of the river system is actively involved in fishing &ndash; pink salmon and Dolly Vardena only.</p><br>
<p>Marat Fjord , is a fjord in Severnaya Zemlya, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia.</p><br>
<p>This fjord is blocked by ice most of the year.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Although the shore of the island further north had been visited by Boris Vilkitsky&#39;s Arctic Ocean Hydrographic Expedition in 1913, Vilkitsky surveyed the eastern shores of what is now known as Severnaya Zemlya in a fragmentary way —he did not explore the Shokalsky Strait and assumed that the whole of Severnaya Zemlya was one single landmass.</p><br>
<p>This fjord was first surveyed and put in the map at the time of the 1931 expedition led by Soviet researchers Georgy Ushakov and Nikolay Urvantsev that explored for the first time Severnaya Zemlya. The fjord was named after prominent revolutionary figure Jean-Paul Marat (1743–1793).</p><br>
<p>As in Matusevich Fjord further north, more accurate cartographic work of the fjord area was carried out by the 1950 expedition led by B.V. Zubov and A.I. Stepanov AI using aerial photography.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>Marat Fjord is one of the smaller fjords of Severnaya Zemlya. It has its mouth in the southeastern area of October Revolution Island, southwest of Cape Afonin on the Shokalsky Strait shore of the island. Storozhevoy Island lies off the mouth of the fjord to the east of small Bear Bay.</p><br>
<p>The fjord extends in a northwest/southeast direction for about 24 km. The basin inside the fjord is fairly wide and regular, with steep mountains on both sides. At its inner end there is the terminus of an active glacier flowing from the massive Karpinsky Glacier in the northwest. Other active glaciers stemming from the University Glacier in the southwest flow into the western shore of the fjord forming icefalls in certain areas. The outpouring of the glaciers at the head results in a substantial amount of ice streaming out of the fjord the whole year round.</p><br>
<p>Cape Baranov  is a headland in Severnaya Zemlya, Russia.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The Laptev Sea shore of present-day Severnaya Zemlya was discovered by Boris Vilkitsky in 1913 during the Arctic Ocean Hydrographic Expedition on behalf of the Russian Hydrographic Service, but he was unaware that there was a strait west of the cape between what is now Bolshevik Island and the islands further north, for the straits are frozen most of the year, forming a compact whole.</p><br>
<p>This cape was named during the 1930–1932 expedition to the archipelago led by Georgy Ushakov and Nikolay Urvantsev after Soviet scientist Fedor Baranov (1886–1965).</p><br>
<p>Located near Cape Baranov, roughly 15 km to the SSE of the cape, the Prima Polar Station of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute closed down in 1996 and reopened in June 2013 as a private venture. This is currently the only Arctic research facility operating in Severnaya Zemlya.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>Cape Baranov is located in the northern part of Bolshevik Island facing the Shokalsky Strait. This headland stretches out northwards in an unglaciated lowland area west of the mouth of Mikoyan Bay.</p><br>
<p>The Valley Lake is a monomictic crater lake in the Australian state of South Australia situated in the south of Mount Gambier, near the Blue Lake. The Lake is surrounded by a park situated on Davidson Drive. The shore of the lake features a kids playground, sporting facilities, BBQs and toilets. There is also a Wildlife Park, as well as Centenary Tower at the top of the surrounding crater.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>When Mount Gambier was first discovered in 1839 by Stephen Henty of Portland, the Valley Lake and the Blue Lake were considered a good source of water for future settlers.</p><br>
<p>The foundation stone for the Centenary Tower was laid on 3 December 1900 (to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sighting and naming of Mount Gambier), and was officially opened in 1904. The tower sits 190 meters above sea level, and its opening hours are signified by a flag flown above the tower. At night the tower is lit up and can be viewed from the city.</p><br>
<p>On February 26 1954, Queen Elizabeth II visited the Valley Lake as part of her Australian tour. A plaque commemorating this visit was placed at the Valley Lake Lookout in 1977.</p><br>
<p>The Valley Lake Wildlife Park operates within the Valley Lake park. The Park is home to a number of indigenous flora and fauna species. It also features lookouts, a beautiful boardwalk and a number of nature walks, and entry is free.</p><br>
<p>Lee Farm is a historic farm property on Vermont Route 18 in Waterford, Vermont. Established in 1801, it was for many years worked by members of the Lee family, and part of a thriving rural community called Waterford Hollow. Its farmstead features surviving 19th and early 20th-century outbuildings and a high-quality Greek Revival farmhouse. A 5 acre portion of the farm, encompassing the farmstead, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>Lee Farm is located in northernmost Waterford, on the south side of Vermont Route 18 just east of its interchange with Interstate 93. The property is partially on a hillside west of Stiles Pond, and is readily visible from the highway. The farm consists of 187 acre of land, which see a mixture of agricultural uses, including crops, pasture, hay, and wood lots. The farmstead is set on either side of Town Highway 25, a spur road that acts as the farm driveway. Its buildings include a 2-1/2 story Greek Revival farmhouse, two barns, a former chicken coop, a 1-1/2 story tenant&#39;s residence, and an equipment shed.</p><br>
<p>The farm began as a roughly 300 acre parcel, which was purchased by John Lee in 1801. Its original farmstead, whose foundational remains survive, was originally located further up Waterford Mountain to the south. The Greek Revival farmhouse dates to about 1859, and was probably built by Lee&#39;s son Nathaniel after the original farmhouse burned down. The barn to which the house is attached dates to the 1860s, while the other is an early 20th-century structure. The farmhouse was a local landmark, in part because it was larger and of finer quality than many other farmhouses in the area, and the Lees were known to provide accommodations to travelers. The Stiles Pond area was for many years the location of a rural village, whose services were over time moved to nearby St. Johnsbury. The principal surviving element of the village is a small cemetery, located east of the Lee Farm.</p><br>
<p>The Red Covered Bridge is a historic covered bridge, carrying Cole Hill Road across Sterling Brook in Morristown, Vermont. Built in 1896, it is the only surviving 19th-century covered bridge in the town, and one of the last to be built during the historic period of covered bridge construction in the state. It is of queen post truss design, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Red Covered Bridge is located in a rural area of southwestern Morristown, just north of the junction of Cole Hill Road, Sterling Valley Road, and Moren Loop. It is a single-span queen post truss, 64 ft long and 18.5 ft wide, with a roadway width of 15 ft, carrying one lane of traffic. The bridge is covered by a red metal roof, and its exterior is clad in red-painted vertical board siding, which extends around to the insides of the portals. The siding does not extend all the way to the roof, leaving an open strip between the two. The bridge rests on abutments of stone and concrete; the north abutment includes a large granite outcrop. The bridge deck is supported by steel I-beams installed in 1971 to carry the active load.</p><br>
<p>The bridge was built in 1896, one of the last known to be built in the 19th century in Vermont. Its construction is somewhat unusual, with distinctively thicker bottom chords on the trusses, built out of twelve layers of planking.</p><br>
<p>The Jerry E. Dickerman House is an historic house at 36 Field Avenue in the city of Newport, Vermont. Built about 1875 for a prominent local lawyer and customs collector, it is a prominent regional example of residential Second Empire architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Jerry E. Dickerman House is located in downtown Newport, just north of the Goodrich Memorial Library on the east side of Field Avenue. It is a 2-1/2 story wood frame structure, with a clapboarded exterior and dormered mansard roof, which provides a full third floor. The main facade is three bays wide, with the outer bays housing projecting polygonal window bays with bracketed roofs at each level. The central bay projects slightly, and is capped by a larger facade dormer with a bellcast roof outline surrounding a round-arch balcony door opening. The main entrance is at the ground level of this bay, sheltered by a porch with bracketed posts. The interior of the main section of the house retains much of its original woodwork, despite a mid-20th century conversion to apartments.</p><br>
<p>The house was built about 1875, and was originally set facing Main Street, which was then lined by similarly fashionable houses of the community&#39;s upper class. It was moved to its present location about 1930 to make room for a commercial building, and was converted into apartments in the 1940s or 1950s. Maps of the period show about half a dozen or so Second Empire houses, of which only two are known to survive.</p><br>
<p>Moesgård Beach is a public Blue Flag beach in Aarhus Municipality in Denmark. The beach is located in the southern outskirts of Aarhus in the Marselisborg Forests on the Bay of Aarhus in the suburb of Højbjerg. Helgenæs lies across the bay to the east, a bit inland to the west is the Marselisborg Deer Park and to the north is the Varna Palace. The beach area is some 1000 meters long and between 25 and 40 meters wide. It is a white sandy beach with occasional rows of boulders extending into the sea, for coastal erosion protection. Moesgård Beach is popular for sunbathing and swimming due to the shielding effects and scenic views of the nearby forests on the steep hillsides to the west. The beach has a single jetty extending some 20 meters into the sea, offering a platform to jump from or relax on. The Beach is open year-round for everyone at no charge.</p><br>
<p>Moesgård Beach has a life guard in the summer and there is a safety station with a lifesaver. It&#39;s situated in an area with heavy foot traffic, busy roads and Moesgård Museum and Moesgård Manor lies 1.5 kilometers to the west. Aarhus Municipality frequently tests the water for bacteria and algae and rates all beaches on a yearly basis. In 2014 and 2015 the beach has received the highest possible 3/3 rating. The water level drops off relatively rapidly and reaches a depth of 2 meters some 20 meters from the shore.</p><br>
<h2>Access</h2><br>
<p>The beach lies at the end of Strandskovvej in the Marselisborg Forests which can be reached by Aarhus Sporveje buses. Bus no. 18 depart from the Aarhus Central Station and stops at Strandskovvej by Moesgård Beach. Danish National Cycle Route 5 runs along the coast of eastern Jutland from Odder Municipality to central Aarhus, passing through the Marselisborg Forests and by Moesgård Beach, before it continues north past Ballehage Beach to the north of Aarhus and Den Permanente, Bellevue Beach and Åkrogen. It&#39;s possible to walk the 7 km. to Moesgård Beach, along the coast from Indre by and Marselisborg Yacht Harbour lies 4 km. north of the beach, providing access by sea for smaller boats and ships that can dock on the beach.</p><br>

<p>The Cave Gardens are the garden located in the centre of Mount Gambier in the Australian state of South Australia that contain a 90ft deep cave. The cave was initially used as a water source for the town. In 1870 the area became a reserve, and by the 1890s trees, gas lamps and seating were installed in the area. On 2 August 2001, the Cave Gardens were declared a State Heritage area.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The Cave that the garden surrounds was first discovered during the 1845-46 survey of the area, with the fresh water supply in the cave being an attraction that initiated the first settlement of the area. The three acres surrounding the area was declared Government Reserve. The main water supply of Mount Gambier remained the sinkhole until the 1850s. The first buildings of Mount Gambier (the first post office, the Town Hall, and a hotel) were built surrounding this reserve. In the 1890s the first plants and seating were added to the area, and the formal garden was contructed between 1906 and 1910.</p><br>
<p>In 1922 a captured German gun from WWI was added to the garden, however this was later removed. A large flagstaff was displayed in the garden for 40 years until on 1 January 1926 it fell, however no one was injured. The garden also featured a model air raid shelter in 1942 for householders to view, thought its use was never necessary.</p><br>
<p>The gardens now feature a scenic walk, as well as a lowered viewing platform into the sinkhole. The floor of the cave is not accessible. In wet weather, the drains at the top of the sinkhole create a waterfall that flows into the cave.</p><br>
<h2>Dangers</h2><br>
<p>In 1878, when the cave floor was still submerged in water, a young man committed suicide by drowning himself in the water.</p><br>
<p>Though the cave floor is no longer accessible, people have made attempts to enter it. In August 2011, two men lowered themselves into the cave. One became injured after trying to climb out and falling. Both men were eventually removed from the cave and taken into police custody.</p><br>
<p>Aborrebjerg is a hill on the Danish island of Møn.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>The hill stands at 143 m and is the highest point in Møn island and the eighth in Denmark, very close to Møns Klint.</p><br>
<p>Aborrebjerg is mainly covered by wood and shrubs like junipers; behind it some ponds are located. The summit is marked with a circular stone.</p><br>
<h2>Geology</h2><br>
<p>As well as the neighbouring cliffs Aborrebjerg bedrock is chalk, which originated during the Cretaceous and was later lifted to its present location by tectonic movements following the ice ages.</p><br>
<h2>Access to the summit</h2><br>
<p>The can be easily reached through a waymarked foothpath. From the summit there is a good view. With good weather looking west both Farøbroerne and Queen Alexandrine Bridge can be seen, while looking north one can see up to Stevns.</p><br>
<p>The Lind Houses are a series of seven nearly identical houses on Pleasant Street in South Ryegate, Vermont. Built about 1905, they form one of the best-preserved examples of period worker housing in the state. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Lind Houses are located on the south side of the village of South Ryegate, on the south side of Pleasant Street, a side street connecting Church Street with United States Route 302. The seven houses are all nearly identical free-standing 2-1/2 story wood-frame structures, with front-facing gabled roofs and clapboarded exteriors. Each has a single-story hip-roof porch extending across the front, supported by bracketed Victorian turned posts, with square balusters. Their facades are three bays wide, with the main entrance in the left bay. A shedroof single-story ell extends to the rear of each house, which originally housed privies. The two houses at the eastern end of the row each have a small carriage barn attached to the rear of the ell.</p><br>
<p>The houses were built about 1905 by George E. Lind, specifically to provide housing to immigrant workers in the areas granite-related businesses. Lind had come to the United States from Germany in the 1851, and was known for his support of the working and living conditions of immigrants. It is notable that these houses were more substantial than Linds own modest house, which stood nearby. Lind died in 1909, and ownership of the houses was taken over by the owners of the South Ryegate Granite Works. They have since then gone through a succession of landlords, and were rehabilitated in the 1980s after a period of decline in the 1960s.</p><br>
<p>The District Number Four School is a historic district school building at 116 North Craftsbury Road in Craftsbury, Vermont. Built about 1859, it saw continuous use as a school building until 1980, and was soon afterward converted into a private residence. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The former District Number Four School stands on the western outskirts of Craftsbury village, on the north side of North Craftsbury Road across the street from the former Methodist church, which has been enlarged to serve as the village&#39;s elementary school. It is a single-story wood frame structure, with a gabled roof, clapboarded exterior, and 20th-century concrete foundation. It has a central chimney, and an open square belfry at the street-facing gable end. It has Greek Revival styling, consisting of corner pilasters and an entablature that runs beneath the eaves. Windows are arranged on the gable ends as bands of sash windows. The interior, originally housing two classrooms, retains a number of original features despite the residential conversion, including bead-board wainscoting. The entrance is located near the center of the south side, sheltered by a gable-roofed porch supported by bracketed posts.</p><br>
<p>The school was built about 1859, most likely not long after Craftbury&#39;s fourth school district purchased the land on which it stands. The principal alterations during its use as a school came in the late 1920s, when its original window pattern was replaced by the present one in order to meet new state standards for lighting and ventilation. In 1963 the adjacent Methodist church building (built 1854) was taken over by the town after it was vacated by the congregation, and was adapted for use to meet increasing enrollment in the school; the original school building continued to serve the lower grades until 1980. It was converted into a residence in 1982.</p><br>
<p>The Williges Building, also known as Cownie-Williges Building, is a historic building located in Sioux City, Iowa, United States. It is a three-story commercial block that was designed by local architects William L. Steele and George Hilgers. The structure was built for August</p><br>
<p>Williges to house his fur manufacturing factory, salesroom, and storage facility. The decorative terra cotta details on the main facade are Sullivanesque in style, which reflects Steeles association with Louis Sullivan from 1897 to 1900. Completed in 1930, it is one of the last commercial buildings constructed in the early Prairie School style in the United States, and Steeles last architectural commission in Sioux City. It was also built at the end of the period of time when terra cotta was popularly used as wall cladding. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.</p><br>
<p>Seven Wells Hill is a prominent hill in the Cotswolds hill range in the counties of Gloucestershire and Worcestershire. At 319 m, is the second highest point in Gloucestershire.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>Seven Wells Hill is the highest point on a north-south ridge and rises about 3 kilometres south-southeast of the village of Broadway and about 2 kilometres east-northeast of the hamlet of Snowshill. The summit is flanked by woods to the north and west, but is open to the east and south. There are good views from the more open northern part of the ridge, which is called Broadway Hill. To the west the ground slopes steeply downhill through wooded hillsides, while to the east it descends much more gently across open arable country.</p><br>
<p>The county boundary between Gloucestershire and Worcestershire roughly follows the ridgeline, passing just to the west of the summit by around 100 metres.</p><br>
<p>The actual summit is at the base of a wall on the south side.</p><br>
<h2>Broadway Tower</h2><br>
<p>There is a prominent folly called Broadway Tower on the ridgeline about 1200 metres north of the summit of Seven Wells Hill.</p><br>
<p>Shenberrow Hill is a prominent hill in the Cotswolds hill range in the county of Gloucestershire and, at 304 m, is the third highest point in the county.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>Shenberrow Hill rises on the northwestern edge of the Cotswolds about 5 kilometres south-southwest of the village of Broadway and about 1,200 metres west-southwest of the hamlet of Snowshill. The summit is open and there is a site of an Iron Age hillfort - Shenberrow Hill Camp - on the hillside to the northwest about 300 metres from the top. There is a trig point at 298 metres on the southern spur of the hill about 600 metres from the summit. To the west the ground slopes steeply downhill through partially wooded hillsides to the Vale of Evesham, while to the east it descends briefly before rising again at Oat Hill (c. 272 m) just outside Snowshill.</p><br>
<p>The county boundary between Gloucestershire and Worcestershire lies about 2 kilometres northeast of Shenberrow Hill.</p><br>
<p>The actual summit is featureless and lies within an open field.</p><br>
<p>Engelbrecht Cave  is a cave system in the Australian state of South Australia consisting of a sinkhole with two major passages located under the urban area known as Mount Gambier. It is owned by the local government area of City of Mount Gambier and has been developed as a tourism venue. Its dry extent is notable as a show cave while its water-filled extent is notable as two separate cave diving sites.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The cave is located on a parcel of open land within the residential area bounded to the north by Jubilee Highway West (the name used for the Princess Highway within Mount Gambier) and by the following roads on its west, south and east sides - Ehret Street, Chute Street and Victoria Terrace.</p><br>
<p>The cave consists of a collapsed area known as a sinkhole with two main passages - one running in an easterly direction and one running in a westerly direction. The east passage which extends about 70 m from the doline’s opening, leads to a lake where a water-filled passage leads to an air chamber. The west passage which extends about 300 m, is only accessible by cave diving for the majority of its length and includes a major air chamber is located immediately below Jubilee Highway West.</p><br>
<p>The ground level at street level adjoining the cave is 41 m above sea level while the water level throughout the cave system is 12 m above sea level.</p><br>
<p>Access to the cave within Mount Gambier’s street system is via Chute Street.</p><br>
<h2>Naming</h2><br>
<p>The site is named after Carl Engelbrecht, a German immigrant who settled in Mount Gambier during the 19th century. The cave is also known as Engelbrecht’s Cave, North Terrace Cave and Vansittarts Cave.</p><br>
<p>The Cave Divers Association of Australia (CDAA) refers to the flooded portion of eastern passage as Engelbrechts Cave - East and to the flooded portion of western passage as Engelbrechts Cave - West.</p><br>
<p>The Cave Exploration Group (South Australia) Incorporated (CEGSA) has classified the cave as being two sites and has identified both using its unique numbering system. The passage running in the easterly direction is numbered as 5L-19 while the passage running in the westerly direction is 5L-20.</p><br>
<h2>Geological description</h2><br>
<p>The cave is located in a limestone known as Gambier Limestone which was formed between 35 and 45 million years ago and has an estimated thickness of about 100 m at the cave itself. The topsoil surrounding the cave is volcanic in origin and dates back to the last eruption of the Mount Gambier volcano from between 2,800 and 26,000 years ago.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The cave was first described in writing published by Julian Tenison-Woods in 1865 where the name Vansittarts Cave was first used.</p><br>
<p>In 1864, the cave was reportedly explored by four men in a canoe. In 1933, their story was told to the Mount Gambier newspaper, The Border Watch, by one of the participants, Charles Grosser who was aged seven years in 1864. Grosser described the journey within the cave as follows:I was only nine or ten years of age at the time, but I can clearly remember how the current caught the canoe and carried us along as soon as we got into the stream. We must have gone 200 yards, travelling directly towards the Blue Lake. The stream took several turns, and the current was so strong that we had considerable difficulty in getting back…However, one source points out that the description of the cave in 1864 does not match the cave system surveyed in 1986.</p><br>
<p>In 1885, Carl Engelbrecht purchased a flour mill located nearby and converted it into a whiskey distillery. Engelbrecht used the cave for disposal of waste such as “slimper” (“ a caustic by-product of the distillery process”) and bottles.</p><br>
<p>In May 1929, the land on which the cave is located was purchased by the then District Council of Mount Gambier. In 1940, the cave was sealed after being inspected by one of the councillors.</p><br>
<p>In 1964, the district council invited expressions of interest for “investigations for tourist potential of the cave.” One investigate include a team of four divers including “the well-known Dave Burchell” who carried out an exploratory dive with the following outcome:After digging their way through 100 years of rubbish and entering a dark muddy passage, a relatively small lake was discovered with a very silty floor, which was only 17 feet deep. Their report to the council was not suitable for tourist development.</p><br>
<p>In 1979, the Lions Club of Mount Gambier commenced a project of beautifying the cave with the associated works taking three years to complete with the expense of $10,000.</p><br>
<p>In 1995, Engelbrecht Cave was added to the South Australian Heritage Register.</p><br>
<h2>Present day</h2><br>
<p>The cave is operated on behalf of the City of Mount Gambier as a show cave by a private operator. The facility includes a café, a tour desk, an accessway into the cave system including viewing platforms at the lakes in both passages, toilets and range of open spaces with varying degrees of shelter for picnics and associated activities. The operator also offers guided tours of the dry sections of both cave passages.</p><br>
<p>Access for cave diving is limited as follows: those wishing to dive the eastern passage need to have the CDAA Cave grade while those wishing to dive the western passage need to have the CDAA Advanced Cave grade.</p><br>
<p>The Sioux City Linseed Oil Works is a historic building located in Sioux City, Iowa, United States. It is located in an area east of the central business district where warehouses and other industrial buildings are located. It housed the Sioux City Linseed Oil Works  from 1884, when it was built, until 1927 when its owner, the American Linseed Oil Company, ceased production here. The building was largely destroyed in a fire that began late in the night of May 20, 1891. Mankato, Minnesota architect William D. McLaughlin stepped in to complete the work begun by Sioux City architect E.W. Loft. Essentially, the building was rebuilt and was very similar in appearance to the original structure. Gone was the gable roof on the westernmost wing, which was replaced by a flat roof, and two floors were added to the rebuilt press room annex in the back. The building was acquired by Bekins Van and Storage Company in 1928. They began operations here two years later, and they remained the primary tenant in the building until 1972. There was a variety of other tenants who were housed here over the years. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.</p><br>
<p>English Mountain is a mountain located in the western foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains region of East Tennessee. Rising to a peak of 3,629 feet, it is known for offering scenic fall colors within a convenient drive from Knoxville.</p><br>
<p>The English Mountain Fire Lookout Tower is a historic landmark, according to the National Park Service.</p><br>
<h2>Source of water</h2><br>
<p>The mountain is a significant source of drinking water for nearby communities. The English Mountain Spring releases more than 2 million gallons of water each day, and is the source for several premium bottled water distributors. Since 1997, it has been the source for the English Mountain Spring Water Company of Dandridge, Tennessee, (a supplier of Cracker Barrel restaurants).</p><br>
<h2>April 2016 wildfire</h2><br>
<p>In spring 2016, a wildfire consumed several hundred acres of forest on the mountain.</p><br>
<p>Cape October  is a headland in Severnaya Zemlya, Russia.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>This cape was named during the 1930–1932 expedition to the archipelago led by Georgy Ushakov and Nikolay Urvantsev after the month of the 1917 Russian Revolution.</p><br>
<p>Thelodonti fossils from the Upper Silurian have been found in the area of the headland, as well as extinct marine mollusks of the Hiatellidae family.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>Cape October is located in a low-lying unglaciated area of the northern part of October Revolution Island north of the Albanov Glacier. It faces the Red Army Strait opposite the Academy of Sciences Glacier on Komsomolets Island shore. Visoky Island lies about 18 km east and Bolshoy Izvestnikovky Island about 13 km to the southwest of the cape, near the confluence with the Yuny Strait.</p><br>
<p>Bellevue Beach is a public Blue Flag beach in Aarhus, Denmark. The beach is located 4 kilometres north of the city centre in the district of Aarhus N, north of the Riis Forest on the Bay of Aarhus in the neighbourhood of Risskov. Helgenæs lies across the bay in the east, a bit inland to the south is the Jydske Asyl  and Risskov Church and to the north is the Egå Marina. The beach is some 1,500 meters long and between 25 and 40 meters wide. It is a white sandy beach with occasional rows of boulders extending into the sea, for coastal erosion protection. Bellevue Beach is popular for sunbathing and swimming due to the finely grained sand, the shallow water, proximity to Riis Forest and the scenic view of Aarhus harbor front on the horizon. The Beach is open year-round for everyone at no charge.</p><br>
<p>There is a park area in connection to the beach, including a parking area, access to drinking water, lavatories, basic emergency equipment, a kiosk, thrash bins, and green areas for play, picnics and somewhat secluded sunbathing. Bellevuehallerne is a sports hall complex immediately west of the Bellevue park and it includes a dining café.</p><br>
<p>Bellevye Beach is one of two beachparks in Risskov, the other one being Risskov Strandpark.</p><br>
<h2>Safety</h2><br>
<p>Bellevue Beach has no life guard in the summer but there is a safety station with life saving equipment and an emergency telephone. The beach park is situated in an area with heavy foot traffic, busy roads and an expansive residential area, so getting help quickly should not be an issue. Aarhus Municipality frequently tests the water for harmful bacteria and algae and rates all beaches on a yearly basis. There are several rainwater pipes from the residential areas draining into the bay at Bellevue Beach, so expect the water quality to be unsuitable for bathing after heavy rainfall. The water level at Bellevue is very shallow, slowly reaching a depth of 2 meters some 100 meters from the shore.</p><br>
<h2>Access</h2><br>
<p>The beach lies in the Risskov neighborhood at the end of Fortevej, which is served by the local yellow buses. Bus no. 20 depart from the Aarhus Central Station and stops at Fortevejen by the Bellevue Beach. Danish National Cycle Route 5 runs along the coast of eastern Jutland from Odder Municipality to central Aarhus and on to the region of Djursland in the north. In Aarhus, the route passes through the Marselisborg Forests including Ballehage Beach, and continues north past the seabath of Den Permanente in the Riis Skov forest in the northern parts of Aarhus and on to Bellevue Beach and Åkrogen. Bellevue Beach is easily reached by foot from the city centre of Indre by, either along the coast or more comfortably by sidewalks through residential neighbourhoods. Marselisborg Yacht Harbour is 5 kilometres south of Bellevue Beach and Egå Marina is 2 kilomtres to the north.</p><br>

<p>The Red House, in the coastal town of Aldeburgh, Suffolk, England, was the home of the composer Benjamin Britten, from 1957 until his death in 1976, and of his partner, Peter Pears, until the latters death in 1986. It is now the base for the Britten-Pears Foundation which promotes Brittens music and his work with Pears.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The origins of the house are late-17th century when the building was a farmhouse. Extended in the three subsequent centuries, it was brought in 1951 by the painter, Mary Potter. In 1957, she and Britten exchanged houses, Potter taking Crag House, which Britten had bought in 1947. Britten lived at the house as his main residence until his death in 1976; after Pears death a decade later, it was established as the base for the Britten-Pears Foundation. The Foundation promotes Britten and Pears music legacy, and the buildings and grounds at The Red House serve this end, being open to the public and the setting for an archive of Brittens work, exhibition spaces, and a centre for music research. The Foundation also manages the house and the associated art collection, including sculpture by Geoffrey Clarke and Georg Ehrlich. The art collection, comprising some 1,300 works, is predominately that built up by Britten and Pears, although the Foundation has made acquisitions of its own, either of art relating to Brittens work, or of artists influenced by him.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>The original farmhouse was constructed of red brick, on a timber frame in the late 17th century. Extensions in the 18th and 19th centuries created a house of a double-pile plan, with two storeys and three bays. Further extensions were made in the twentieth century during Britten&#39;s ownership, and subsequently by the Britten-Pears Foundation. These include a porch by Peter Collymore from 1967, studios by Collymore and by H. T. Cadbury-Brown from the 1950s and 1960s, an Exhibition Gallery from 1993 and an Archive Building from 2011-13.</p><br>
<p>The Maple Street–Clarks Avenue Historic District encompasses a historic 19th-century immigrant neighborhood of St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Located northwest of the downtown area on a sloping hillside, it consists of tenements and single-family houses built for Irish and French Canadian immigrants, sometimes grouped in ways that facilitated the support of large extended families. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The town of St. Johnsbury flourished in the second half of the 19th century, following the arrival of the first railroad line in 1850, and the success of the Fairbanks Scale Company, a major local employer. Prior to the 1850s, the area was owned by members of the Clark family, whose early Cape houses still stand on Main Street. Maple Street was laid out east-west from the northern end of the business district to the Main Street area, directly up a relatively steep hillside, with Clarks Avenue laid out later, taking a more winding path up the hillside to the north. Much of Maple Street was built out with modest single-family and tenement houses by the 1870s, when another railroad line brought additional jobs to the area. This spurred further development along Clarks Avenue. By the early 20th century, some of the immigrants and descendants of early immigrants built finer homes as infill on the spur roads of Frost Avenue and Idlewild Terrace; houses on the latter are afforded fine views to the east.</p><br>
<p>The historic district is bounded on the west by Main Street Historic District. It includes all of the houses on Clarks Avenue, Idlewild Terrace, and Frost Avenue, and those on the north side of Maple Avenue. The primarily buildings are all residential, 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 stories in height, and of wood frame construction. Most were built between 1850 and 1890, and stylistically reflect vernacular interpretations of the Greek Revival and Italianate periods. The smaller number of early 20th-century houses include modest examples of the Tudor Revival on Idlewild Terrace and transitional Queen Anne/Colonial Revival on Frost Avenue. In a number of places, the buildings are organized in distinctive courtyard arrangements, a method employed by French Canadian immigrant families to facilitate the support and social activities of large extended families.</p><br>
<p>The Stowe CCC Side Camp, now known as the Vermont State Ski Dorm, is a historic residence hall at 6992 Mountain Road in Stowe, Vermont. Built in 1935 by crews of the Civilian Conservation Corps, it is one of the largest surviving CCC-built housing units to survive in the state. It was converted for use as a ski lodge after World War II. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Stowe CCC Side Camp is located in Mount Mansfield State Forest, on the north side of Mountain Road (Vermont Route 108), about 0.5 mi below the entrance to the Stowe Mountain Resort. It is accessed by a short gravel road that crosses the West Branch Little River, which separates the building from the main road. It is a two-story wood-frame structure, about 70 ft long and 20 ft deep, sited to give good views of Mount Mansfield. It is covered by a gable roof, pierced by one off-center interior chimney and another at the left end. Its facade is six bays wide, with the entrance in the center-right bay, sheltered by a gabled porch with rustic square posts. First floor windows are paired six-pane fixed windows, except the leftmost, which has sliding casements. Second floor windows are paired casement windows. The interior is rustic and simply appointed.</p><br>
<p>The camp was built in 1935 by a crew of the Civilian Conservation Corps, for its use as a residence while working on the roads and trails of the ski area and state forest. It originally housed 50 men, with another 25 housed in adjacent buildings that no longer stand. The building remained in use by the CCC until World War II ended in 1945, and was thereafter taken over by the state and operated as a ski lodge.</p><br>
<p>Fox Hall is a historic summer estate house in Westmore, Vermont. Built about 1900 by the then-mayor of Yonkers, New York, it was the first major summer resort property built in the remote town on the shores of Lake Willoughby. It is architecturally a distinctive blend of Colonial Revival and the Shingle style; the latter is a particularly uncommon style for northern Vermont. The house, along with a period icehouse, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>Fox Hall stands overlooking the northern part of Lake Willoughby, on a terrace above its western shore. It is accessed via Fox Lane, a private road extending east from Peene Hill Road, south of Vermont Route 16. The house is a 2-1/2 story wood frame structure, with a side gambrel roof and clapboarded exterior. The front facade, oriented toward the lake, is defined by a broad central cross-gable gambrel dormer and flanking circular projections capped by bell-cast roofs. A porch extends across the width of this facade, but is only covered in the central section beneath the dormer by a shed roof. The interior retains original woodwork, most of which is modest in style and scale; the most ornate elements are found on the main staircase.</p><br>
<p>The town of Westmore was relatively remote and nearly inaccessible until 1852, when the road on Lake Willoughbys eastern shore (now Vermont Route 5A) was built. This led to an increase in population, and eventually also brought tourists to the area. By 1883, the town had a hotel in its center on the eastern shore. John and Ava Peene (he being the mayor of Yonkers, New York), began buying land on the northwestern shore of the lake in the 1899, and the house was probably completed by the following year. Ava Peene sold it after her husbands death in 1919, to a swindler who never paid her. He tried to operate a summer camp for children on the property, without success. Later owners of the property also operated summer camps, including the Keewaydin organization, which briefly had a girls camp here. The last camp to operate here closed in 1975. It has since also been operated as a bed and breakfast, but is now in private ownership.</p><br>
<p>Bow Hill is an elongated hill ridge, 206 m high, and running roughly from north to south in the South Downs, in the county of West Sussex, England. It has a prominence of 74 metres.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>Bow Hill is the highest point of Stoughton Down which lies to the east of the village of Stoughton in West Sussex. The summit itself is 2 kilometres due east of Stoughton and about 7 kilometres northwest of the nearest large town, Chichester. To the south are Stoke Down and the village of West Stoke; to the east and southeast are the villages of West Dean and Mid Lavant in the valley of the River Lavant, to the north are East Marden and Chilgrove.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>Bow Hill is the highest point on a north-to-south running and steep-sided ridge and there is a trig point at the top. Its crest and upper slopes are densely wooded, but the lower slopes are open downland. Various tracks and bridleways run pass close to the summit and there is a ridgeway that divides just northeast of the summit heading to Stoughton in one direction and West Stoke in the other.</p><br>
<h2>Points of interest</h2><br>
<p>Much of Bow Hill lies with a nature reserve, although the summit itself is not. The ridge has much evidence of ancient settlement, including a cross dyke, tumuli, earthworks and long barrows. Of particular note are Goosehill Camp, an Iron Age hillfort about 1,500 metres north-northeast of Bow Hill on the east side of the ridge, and the Devil&#39;s Humps, a cluster of four Bronze Age barrows.</p><br>
<p>Chenail Island  is an uninhabited island in the Ottawa River of Ontario, Canada. It is part of the town of Hawkesbury, Ontario and across the river from Grenville, Quebec. The only road on the island, the four-lane St. John Street, connects Ontario Highway 34 in Hawkesbury and Quebec Route 344 in Grenville via the Perley Bridge  and its replacement, the Long-Sault Bridge.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The channel between the island and Hawkesbury was called the "Chenaille Escarté" (lost channel) by early French-Canadian settlers. An English corruption of the term, "Snye Carty", was later shortened to "The Snye" and came to represent the village. Nearby Hamilton Island was the location of an early gristmill and sawmill built by two Americans, Thomas Mears and David Pattee, around 1815. After having financial trouble, the properties were taken over by the mortgagees, brothers John and Robert Hamilton. The sawmill processed logs that were floated down the river after being cut, with much of the lumber being exported to England. The mill complex, known as Hawkesbury or Hamilton Mills, was expanded many times into the largest sawmill in Canada during the 19th century, employing over 1000 people.</p><br>
<p>In the early 1960s, the size of the island was reduced when construction of the Carillon Generating Station, a hydroelectric power station that was built approximately 12 mi downstream from the island raised the water level by over 9 ft submerging much of the island and forcing the residents to leave. Plans to build embankments that would have protected some properties were rejected by residents who did not want to live behind them. In addition to large tracts of farmland, approximately 35 commercial and 200 residential parcels in Hawkesbury were expropriated, including all of the parcels (approximately 50) on Chenail Island.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>The island&#39;s average elevation is 37 meter. The entire island is a public park (Confederation Park) of approximately 20 acre that was constructed at the time the island was depopulated and largely submerged.</p><br>

<h3>Chenail Cultural Center</h3><br>
<p>Chenail Island is the location of Chenail Cultural Centre, a non-profit organization that promotes local French-Canadian culture and the history of the Maison de l&#39;Ile (Island House), the only significant structure on the island. The house, built 1835, is the oldest building in Hawkesbury and was originally the office of John Hamilton who was later appointed to the Senate in the Canadian Confederation of 1867.</p><br>
<p>The town government, which owns the building, attempted to restrict the Chenail Cultural Centre to the second floor so that it could use the first floor as a tourist information center. The town later said it did not need the entire first floor, and a dispute led the town to call for eviction. A judge rejected the eviction in November, 2016.</p><br>
<h3>Monument de la Francophonie</h3><br>
<p>The 15th Monument of the Francophonie of Ontario is located on Chenail Island. The monument features a fleur-de-lys, the symbol of the Francophonie, surrounded by a man and woman&#39;s hand and encircled by 13 maple leaf benches representing the Canadian provinces and territories. The sculptures, made of stone and at human scale, were dedicated on November 28, 2014. There is also a large Franco-Ontarian flag on a 25 metre flagpole.</p><br>
<h3>Snye/Le Chenail Monument</h3><br>
<p>The Town of Hawkesbury placed a monument on the island in 2009 to honour approximately forty families that once resided on the island before their land was expropriated by the government for the power station.</p><br>
